Privacy Policy

PromptMeter ("we", "us") is a VS Code extension and website operated by Krunal Dabhi, an individual developer based in India. This policy explains what data the extension and the website handle. The short version: the extension runs on your computer and does not send us anything.
1. The PromptMeter extension
- Local processing only. The extension reads the session log files that Claude Code writes on your computer (for example
~/.claude/projects) to calculate token usage and costs. It never modifies those files. - No collection. The free version makes no network requests. We do not collect your prompts, code, file names, usage numbers or any identifiers.
- What stays on your device. A short preview of each prompt (configurable, including "none"), your settings, custom prices and tip states are kept in VS Code's local storage on your machine. The History Vault keeps compressed per-session summaries (token counts, tool and file names, prompt previews) in the same local storage so your history survives Claude Code deleting old logs; "Clear All Data" deletes it.
- Files you choose to share. "Export Diagnostics", "Export Accuracy Report" and "Send Beta Feedback" create files that contain counts and versions only — no prompt text, code, file paths or project names. They are only shared if you send them to us yourself.
- Licence checks (paid plans). If you activate a licence, the extension sends your licence key and an anonymous device identifier (a hash, not your computer name) to our payment provider, Lemon Squeezy, when you activate or deactivate it and about once a week to confirm it is still valid. Your key is stored in VS Code's encrypted secret storage. Nothing about your usage is sent.
- Upcoming features. The optional AI Prompt Coach will only run when you click it, will show you exactly what is sent (your prompt text with secrets and code blocks removed, plus statistics), and will send it either through your own Claude Code login or with your own Anthropic API key. Optional anonymous usage statistics, if added, will be off by default.
2. The website
- Hosting. The site is served by our hosting provider, which processes standard technical data (such as IP address and browser type) to deliver pages and prevent abuse.
- Analytics. If enabled, we use privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics that report aggregate page views only.
- Waitlist and forms. If you join the waitlist or send feedback, the form provider stores the details you enter (for example your email and answers). We use them only to send beta access and product updates, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
3. Payments
Purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record, which processes payment details under its own privacy policy. We receive the information needed to deliver and support your licence: your name, email address, country, order details and licence key. We never see your full card details.
4. How we use and keep data
We use the limited data above to provide licences, beta access, support and product updates, and to meet legal and tax obligations. We keep it only as long as needed for those purposes. We do not sell personal data and do not use it for advertising.
5. Your choices and rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you, or to stop sending you emails, by writing to our support email. Uninstalling the extension removes its local data from VS Code.
6. Children
PromptMeter is a developer tool and is not directed at children under 16.
7. Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced on this page and, for customers, by email.
