No. It reads Claude Code's local log files and processes everything on your machine. The free version makes no network requests at all. The future AI Prompt Coach only runs when you click it, and shows you exactly what it will send first (secrets and code blocks removed).
Yes. Subscription mode shows tokens instead of dollars, so you can see which prompts and habits eat into your limits. Dollar figures are still available as an "API-equivalent" reference.
Yes — anywhere Claude Code writes its logs. With VS Code Remote (SSH, WSL, containers) the extension runs on the same machine as Claude Code. You can also add extra log folders.
PromptMeter de-duplicates Claude Code's streamed log records and checks itself against Claude Code's own internal counter. Some background requests are billed but not written to the logs; the accuracy check shows how much. Dollar amounts are estimates at list prices — you can edit the price table.
